Background

David B. Rubin was admitted to the bar in 1977, and has devoted his practice to education law, commercial disputes, professional responsibility matters and appellate litigation. He has argued numerous precedent–setting cases at all levels of the state and federal court system generating over 50 published judicial opinions. Mr. Rubin has achieved national prominence of the field of education law through his representation of numerous public school districts and private schools throughout New Jersey, his longstanding leadership role in the National School Boards Association’s 3000–member Council of School Attorneys (COSA), and his reputation as a frequent author on school law issues and a sought–after speaker at conferences and seminars throughout the country.

Mr. Rubin has been appointed to numerous positions of public responsibility including Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Unlawful Practice, School Law and Equity Jurisprudence Committees, member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Ad Hoc Committee on Law Firm Trade Names, Municipal Prosecutor and Municipal Court Judge of the City of New Brunswick, Secretary of the Middlesex County Fee Arbitration Committee, Board Member and Chair of COSA, Chair of COSA’s Data Privacy Working Group, ex officio member of the National School Boards Association Board of Directors, President of the New Jersey Association of School Attorneys, lecturer in education law at Rutgers University Graduate School of Education, member of the Editorial Board of New Jersey Lawyer, and Court–appointed mediator, arbitrator and fiscal agent.

Mr. Rubin has received the “AV Preeminent” designation from the Martindale–Hubbell Legal Directory, the highest rating for competence and character based on confidential peer reviews. He has been recognized by SuperLawyers magazine and Best Lawyers in America, and was selected as Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America for Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law (Newark Region). He is a recipient of Distinguished Service Awards from the Council of School Attorneys and the New Jersey Association of School Attorneys. He is also a recipient of the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law’s Professional Lawyer of the Year Award, given annually to lawyers who, by virtue of their conduct, competence and demeanor, have been found to set a positive example for others in the profession.
